The Witness

Filed under: Uncategorized — Geordie Keitt @ 1:38 pm

I had a huge crush on a young lady, part of a DC-based girls-with-guitars duo. Of course, she’s gay - that was my fate. I wrote this after attending her CD release party, attended by upwards of 400 people, maybe 10 of us males. It sometimes takes a while for me to get a point.

The Witness - listen
by Geordie Keitt, 1999

You said the magic words tonight, “I love you everlong”
And 400 people all turn to each other and say, “baby, she’s playing our song”
My arms are empty but my heart is full of these feelings that you inspire
If you were standing with me listening to yourself I’d say “Ya hear that? That girl is on fire”
    Chorus

I’ll sing and dance in your audience while you let out your soul
And I’ll be the witness, the witness to your show
Look me in the eye tonight, I’m your friend in time of need
Can’t take your pain, you have to shed ti yourself, but you can always count on me
    Chorus
    Bridge

The wiser man has no fixed plan and always travels light
Companionship can abandon ship and leave you overnight
Now we’re out alone and the heavenly choirs have all come out to sing
So let’s drive down to the shore and make moonless love to the beating of angel wings
    Chorus
