Dear Dawn
I ripped the basic melodic idea off Christine Lavin’s song “Dear Dan”, about Dan Quayle. This one is about a cute girl I knew at work. She went on vacation hiking in El Salvadore or Guatemala or something, and immediately El Nino hit and it rained for 2 straight weeks. When she got back, it stopped raining. Bob Ryan is a long-time DC-area weather guy.
Dear Dawn - listen
by Geordie Keitt 1999
-
Dear Dawn, come back ’cause you took the sun with you in your backpack
So come back, Dear Dawn, ’cause it’s rained every single minute you’ve been gone
I never compain when the weather’s amiss but c’mon Dawn, you can do better than this
Dear Dawn
-
Dear Dawn, oh please, if you find the sun in your traveling jeans
Then oh please, Dear Dawn, send it back to dry out my waterlogged lawn
I know you took it with you on your faraway trip but you’ll find it if you look in the pocket on your hip
Dear Dawn
-
Dear Dawn, your smile, I know I’ve only known you for a very short while
But your smile, Dear Dawn, is about as appealing as a rainy day is long
Modern day life can be extremely complex but that smile tells me you like the simple things, like sunshine, and chocolates
Dear Dawn
-
Dear Dawn, come back, cause you took the sun with you in your knapsack
So come back, Dear Dawn, cause it’s rained every single second you’ve been gone
They say that this year for some wet weather we’re due - I’ll let Bob Ryan blame el Nino, and I can blame you
