City on the Hill
I wrote this about Isaac Asimov, imagining what he would tell me if he was one of my buds and we were kickin’ it and he knew about this girl I had a crush on.
City on the Hill - listen
by Geordie Keitt, 1999
-
Me and Isaac sift the sands of conversation seeking precious tiny words to say
To help us try to drift on our intoxication hoping someone will be drawn our way
-
Chorus
-
“You got no time to sleep, there’s much too much to do
Don’t you never wanna come down from that City on the Hill
And you got eleven thousand bright ideas awaiting their debut
And they’re all counting on you to count on past the fingers of what’s true.”
-
You and Isaac sift the sands of conversation, never dreaming of the world outside
You can try that gift, that sly congratulation, try to tread upon the sea of lies
Got your feet wet, washed in with the tide
You left no tracks though you walk side by side
-
Chorus
-
Bridge
-
You said you got no vantage point to see yourself from
You don’t know where to go from here
Just lift your head and look to where you come from
And hear Isaac whisper in your ear
-
Chorus
